- (5/20) The group has arrived in Taipei. Today we had a
wonderful visit to National Taiwan University, where we met
many faculty and students and learned about several different
research programs. We were also treated to a delicious lunch at
a restaurant on campus. Some photos from today:

- (5/21) Today we had a very enjoyable visit to Chang Gung
University. During the morning session, we heard presentations by
several representatives of CGU, including its President. We
then went to the Chang
Gung Golf Club for an amazing banquet lunch. Afterwards,
we went back to campus in the afternoon for several lab tours
as well as a visit to an on-campus museum. Today's photos:

- (5/22) In the morning we visited the Operation Control Center
for Taipei's subway system, and in the afternoon we went to
the world's tallest building, Taipei 101. Thoughout the day, we
were accompanied by students, faculty and staff from CGU. CGU
also treated us to a delicious lunch at a restaurant.

- (5/23) Today we visited 3 high-tech companies: Elitegroup
Computer Systems, Quanta Computer and Nanya Technology.
We were again joined by students, faculty and staff from
CGU throughout the day. At lunch, CGU treated us once again
to a delicious lunch, this time at a traditional hot pot
restaurant. Today's photos:

- (5/24) We toured the impressive National Palace Museum on
our last full day in Taipei. On the way back to our hotel,
we stopped at a Daoist temple. Photos:

- (5/25) We checked out of the Cosmos Hotel and visited two
memorial sites in Taipei. Then, we took a one hour bus trip to our
next destination, Hsinchu. Today's pictures:

- (5/26) Today we took a guided tour of Hsinchu, where we saw
many temples and also had a chance to sample some traditional foods.

- (5/27) In the morning, we visited Hsinchu Science Park (HSP),
which is home to many of Taiwan's high-tech companies. In the
afternoon, we had a tour of ITRI, which is a large R&D organization.

- (5/28) We checked out of the luxurious Lakeshore Hotel and
traveled on our private bus to Tainan, which is in southern Taiwan.
We then checked into the Tainan Hotel.
- (5/29) This was a free day for the students to explore Tainan.

- (5/30) In the morning, we visited National Cheng Kung
University (NCKU). Then, students and faculty treated us
to a banquet lunch at a restaurant. Everyone then travelled
together to Tainan Sciuence Park, where we had a tour of
the park and visited the Delta company and its award-winning

- (5/31) In the morning, we returned to NCKU for a morning of
student-led activities. The NCKU students taught us how to use
the chinese yo-yo, and the UMN students taught them how to play
the game spoons. Then, NCKU treated us to another wonderful lunch
at a different restaurant. After that, we were taken on
a city tour that was provided by NCKU. Thank you NCKU!

- (6/1) We checked out of the Tainan Hotel and rode on our
private bus to the Kaohsiung International Airport, where we
caught our flight to Hong Kong. We then checked into the YMCA
International House. The afternoon and evening were free for
the students to look around Hong Kong.
- (6/2) In the morning, we went to Hong Kong Science Park,
where we visited the company Group Sense and also received
a general introduction to the Science Park. This evening we
will have a group dinner at the YMCA International House's

- (6/3) The daytime was free for exploring Hong Kong. In the evening,
the group took a dinner cruise in the harbour. Pictures:

- (6/4)The group went on a guided tour of Hong Kong today.
- (6/5) The group visited Hong Kong University of Science
and Technology (HKUST), where they saw a demonstration of software
for Chinese calligraphy and were treated to a wonderful Dim Sum
lunch which was hosted by HKUST. Photos:
